Odd couple
I found this unusual cistern up a side canyon. I
have never seen one this elaborate before.
Cisterns are designed to collect rain water for the benefit of
wildlife. Rainwater runs down this roof like structure, is collected
in a trough and then piped to holding tanks. It is then plumbed to
some sort of trough for the wildlife to drink from.
Holding tanks
Watering trough. There is no water, either the Park
Service has abandoned it or it needs repair.
